The chorten, in sancrit its called stupa which symbolize the mind of Buddha and there are many different kind of it, like Tibetan style, Nepales style, Bhutanese style and many more. It is built to ward off evil spirits from the places that are identified as threshold, like mountain passes, river confluences, bridges etc. but some are built in a place where historical figures have visited or meditated. It has been built in the memory of passed away peoples. So, if u come to Bhutan u will see, as seeing is believing.
